Rehabilitation after hip endoprosthesis POST-OPERATIVE REHABILITATION

Post-operative rehabilitation procedure considers the individual capacity and post-operative state of the patient. All physiotherapeutic measures must be preceded by a review of the indications of the operating physician, which are included in the medical history. The objectives of rehabilitation procedures after hip
replacement: protection against implant displacement; recovery of functional strength; improvement of strength and muscle tone in the lower limbs, postural muscles; prevention of post-operative infections; prevention of thrombosis and oedema; early verticalisation and improvement of walking on crutches; achievement of a pain-free range of motion; relaxation of contracted muscles (flexion, adduction). Prophylactic instructions for the patient after hip alloplasty to minimise the risk of hip prosthesis dislocation, reduce prosthesis material wear and loosening.

5 BASIC PRINCIPLES:

1/. Correct/prophylactic positioning of patients: In the first few months after endoprosthesis, it is recommended to sleep on your back with a slight stride and external rotation (preferably using a special wedge - photo below, which controls/stabilises the positioning of your hips while sleeping). P.S. Unfortunately, controlling rotation while sleeping on your back is virtually impossible, and even more difficult on your side. Image1. V-shaped leg spreader.

2/. It is necessary to avoid bending the operated lower limb above 90° for 4 months after the endoprosthesis.
3/. Do not rotate the operated leg inwards.
4/. Avoid adduction of the leg, do not cross the legs.
5/. During the first year, the patient should not lift loads and should avoid heavy work.
